The National Hurricane Center is tracking a total of seven systems over the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico Tuesday, including two hurricanes, two tropical storms and three other disturbances. 

Here's the latest update from the NHC as of Sept. 15.

What's out there and where are they?

Hurricane Sally is 75 miles southwest of Pensacola

Hurricane Paulette is 740 miles northeast of Bermuda.

Tropical Storm Teddy is 895 miles east of the Lesser Antilles.

Tropical Storm Vicky is about 640 miles northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.

Disturbance 1 is a broad area of low pressure over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico.

Disturbance 2 is a few hundred miles south-southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands.

Disturbance 3 is a non-tropical area of low pressure is located over the far northeastern Atlantic Ocean several hundred miles northeast of the Azores.

How likely are they to strengthen?

Hurricane Sally: Sally's maximum winds increased to near 85 mph at the 8 p.m. update. Some additional strengthening is possible before Sally's center reaches the northern Gulf coast on Wednesday.

Hurricane Paulette: Paulette has weakened and is expected to become a tropical cyclone in a few days.

Tropical Storm Teddy: Strengthening is forecast, and Teddy could become a hurricane tonight. Teddy is forecast to be near major hurricane strength within a few days.

Tropical Storm Vicky: Weakening is forecast due to strong upper-level winds during the next 48 hours, and Vicky is likely to degenerate into remnant low by Wednesday.

  • Maximum sustained winds: 80 mph
  • Present movement: West-northwest at 2 mph

Hurricane Paulette

  • Location: 740 miles northeast of Bermuda
  • Maximum sustained winds: 100 mph
  • Present movement: Northwest at 30 mph

Tropical Storm Teddy

  • Location: 895 miles east of the Lesser Antilles
  • Maximum sustained winds: 65 mph
  • Present movement: West-northwest at 13 mph

Tropical Storm Vicky

  • Location: 640 miles northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands
  • Maximum sustained winds: 45 mph
  • Present movement: West-northwest at 12 mph

Who is likely to be impacted?

Hurricane Sally

Sally is forecast to turn inland Wednesday and track across the Southeast producing rainfall of 4 to 8 inches, with isolated maximum amounts of 12 inches, across portions of southeastern Mississippi, southern and central Alabama, central and northern Georgia, and the western Carolinas.. 

Hurricane Paulette

Swells generated by Paulette will continue to affect portions of Bermuda, the Bahamas, the Greater Antilles, and the east coast of the United States through tonight. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.

Tropical Storm Teddy

Large swells generated by Tropical Storm Teddy are expected to reach the Lesser Antilles and the northeastern coast of South America on Wednesday. These swells are likely to cause life- threatening surf and rip current conditions.

A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for:

  • Mouth of the Mississippi River to the Okaloosa/Walton County Line Florida
  • Mobile Bay

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for:

  • East of Bay St. Louis to Navarre, Florida

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for:

  • East of Navarre Florida to Indian Pass Florida
  • Mouth of the Pearl River westward to Grand Isle Louisiana, including Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Maurepas and metropolitan New Orleans
