STUART— Portions of Dixie Highway near the Roosevelt Bridge will be closed on the weekend, starting Friday night.
Parts of Dixie Highway will be closed so work crews can continue to safely work on the southbound Roosevelt Bridge, said Beth Frady, Florida Department of Transportation's communications director.
Frady said the closures will go from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
Four months ago, a crack was found in the southbound bridge. It was later determined that corrosion had occurred on the southbound bridge's steel tendons. Both bridges were then closed and minor repairs were done to the northbound bridge.
The northbound bridge reopened June 27 to two-way traffic. The southbound bridge is expected to reopen in late October.

To get around Dixie Highway, Frady said locals should use U.S.1 and the northbound bridge. For vehicles over 5 tons, Frady said drivers should use Interstate-95, Florida’s Turnpike and State Road A1A.
Frady said the work continues to be on schedule with crews working seven days a week.
